Find a New You by Visiting a Medical Day Spa Near You

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

When you find yourself feeling jaded and want an uplifting and rejuvenating experience then a retreat to a medical day spa may be just the thing you are in need of. Medical day spas are becoming incresingly popular and there are many more complex treatments to help you feel and look younger that you may not find at your every day spa. Medical peels, botox injections and photo facials are all treatments that you can consider having. If you have medical records to hand you may have to produced them at the initial consultation so dont forget them. Some spas may ask for an initial consultation before you book the treatment.

There are two very popular treatments that can be found at a medical day spa:

Botox injections: A much used treatment initially by celebrities but now is far more popular with the general public. Botox treatments are common place all over the country and is a treatment offered by most medical day spas. A single botox treatment can make a huge difference to the apperance of your skin. Although botox gives wonderful results it is not permanent. The effects will last for about four months an then the procedure needs to be repeated. Before you start you may want to think about you budget especially for repeat visits. Do not go anywhere other than a respectable medical day spa with a proven track record to have this treatment done…here’s why…

Botox is a trade name and not the name of the substance that is injected.  botox is derived from the botulinum toxin which is a neurotoxin protein. Botox, when used in minute amounts causes the facial muscle to paralyse preventing it from contracting, that is how the wrinkles then are not so visible. Botox will not eradicate damage through sun. Before you start a Botox treatment you must talk to a medical professional so you are fully aware of any side effects.

Medical peels and microdermabrasion: Medical microdermabrasion is a non surgical method of rejuvenation without the use of lasers and chemicals and is a modern treatment that is virtually painless and can be used in conjuction with other treatments.

If you are someone who suffers from blemishes, sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles or problem skin then peels or microdermabrasion could be the treatment for you. You will find these treatments easily inmany medical day spas.

If you elect to have a medical peel treatment then the top most layer is removed so you may experience a burning sensation … this means it is workin.  There are three choices of chemicals that can be used, in order of strength,  mild are alphahydroxy acids (AHA’s), medium are trichloracetic acids (TCA’s) and strongest are phenols. The result is a smoother, younger looking skin. The consultant should be able to assess whether a medical peel is a suitable treatment for you.

Many medical day spas in the country offer these two methods of treatment. Booking an appointment is easy but bear in mind, as mentioned earlier, they will want to assess you first to make sure you are getting the best treatment for you.

So…if you want to relax and unwind and take the spa experience one step further then a visit to a medical day spa is definitely worth consideration. You could have a new lease of life!

What Makes For Good Day Spas?

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

There are few more pleasurable experiences than spending time at day spas. But besides the treatments you receive there, it is the atmosphere and the attitude of the staff that can make of break the kind of experience day spas provide. Of late there has been much discussion about the quality standards the spas maintain and the balance of proper treatment and the drive for profits. Here are a few tips on what to look out for when choosing day spas.

First of all, take a tour of the spa. Day spas that are proud of their facilities and confident of their service will have no objection to taking a prospective client around their premises. Keep a look out for the way the clients are treated and how happy they look. Also keep an eye open for any signs of dirty or lack of hygiene. If the staff is polite, the clients look happy and the place is clean, the day spa basics are in place.

Professionally managed day spas will have all their staff in proper uniforms. Casually dressed staff is a sign of a casual attitude on the part of the management.

Do the various treatments start on time or do you see people waiting around for their turn in the Jacuzzi or the massage room? If so, this could be one of the day spas that overbook their facilities and look only at the short term profit, not client comfort.

Therapists should never take the lead in talking to the clients. It should be up to the client as the whether she wants to talk, how much and about what or if she just wants to relax in silence. Therapists who try to sell you other services are a definite no-no.

Getting the Best Out of Day Spas

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

Day spas are places of euphoric feeling of happiness providing relaxation from daily personal or professional stress and strain. Day spas offer services like therapies, massages, body wraps, facials, or any kind of specialized treatments during day time. Unlike the destination spas or resort spas, the treatment can last from one hour to one full day while being in a serene environment away from daily chores and tensions. There are thousands of day spas offering specialized services. Some day spas cater to only specific requirements like the couple spas, escape day spas etc. Waxing is a common service offered in the day spa centre. The body hair is removed with the use of warm wax. The day spa centers are very clean and comfortable. The customers can receive the treatments in their private rooms. If a shower is needed before starting the treatment, showering facilities also are made available for both men and women.

A good quality day spa centre will be typically operated by an esthetician who has got a license to work in the above field. Also trained therapists are employed in the day spa centers specialized in massages and other services. Spa shoes and robes are made available in all sizes to cater to different clients. Many varieties of massages are offered in the day spas like the deep muscle or shiatsu, or Swedish. Apart from waxing, they also provide laser hair removal, heat treatments, and pedicure and manicure treatments. They also have a sauna or a hot tub generally.

Important things to be kept in mind while in a day spa:

Before getting the treatment it is good to explain the spa staff of any health problems like high blood pressure, pregnancy etc. People, who are under medication, should consult the doctor before getting spa treatment.

Many day spas give a questionnaire to be filled and up before providing the services to the customers and the customers are required to provide all the information which will be helpful in serving better and handle with care in case of emergencies.

It is always better to ask for certification, credentials and license pertaining to day spas as some may have untrained and inexperienced worked. Unless there is enough time one should never get into the day spa as it may be waste of money and time.

Taking a treatment in a group, or when opting for a whole package or corporate booking, may be eligible for a discount. It is better to enquire people who have taken the service of the particular day spa to ensure better quality of service. Usually the best day spas offer individualistic services. Hence, it is very important to get suitable appointment time before hand.

It is good to go with minimum accessories and if possible with no make up at all. Also details regarding the latest products and treatments should be got from the staffs of the day spas to be well informed. Some day spas may levy different taxes or surcharges included in the total price. So, it is better to check the prices in advance.

What Are Some Great Affordable Day Spas In Boston, Ma?

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

I’m planning a Bachelorette party for my best friend. The day will include a visit to a Day Spa in Boston. I am searching for something within a $160 or less price range, with an emphasis on package deals. We will be going out to dinner and a club afterwards, so spending a couple of hours at the spa would be ideal. Can anyone recommend spas based on experience? Thanks for your help!
